Tour Details
We flew into Dublin and stayed in the picturesque County Letrim on the western shores of Ireland where guests were introduced to the true meaning of Halloween (Samhain). We learned about the spiritual history of Ireland from our host Barry Fitzgerald. We visited Marble Arch Caves and experienced a fascinating natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers. We had hands on course learning the history of Halloween, the meaning of Celtic spirituality and the modern aspects of the event. That night we made our own Halloween feast, baked traditional breads and made soup, prepared local produce and wildlife for our evening meal. Following the meal we had a fire ceremony similar to the days of old. We visited Parkes castle followed by boarding the Rose of Innisfree which sailed across the great Gill lough. We saw the Arigna Mines in County Roscommon where we took a tour exploring the conditions faced by miners in Ireland and learned about tales and encounters with entities underground that did not have our best intentions at heart. We visited the 'Fairy Bridge', an amazing location which is known for having a doorway to the other world. At dusk we took a tour of Oweynagat - the Cave of the Cats and legendary home of Halloween, home of the mighty Morrigan and many more malicious mythical monsters. Those physically able descended through the narrow entrance and into the cave for 20 metres on their rear ends and into the muddy darkness to retrieve an item from its depths. On Halloween, we headed to County Meath where it all started. We walked along the road guided by flaming torches and up to the earth works where the ceremony began. What a remarkable experience. We traveled around Achill where we learned of the alleged stigmata and other 'miracles' being produced at the House of Prayer at Pollagh. We visited Sraheens Lough which made front pages news in the Evening Herald of June 4th 1968, due to alleged lake monster sightings there. We finished the week with a night at the Hawkswell Theater where we enjoyed an evening show.
