Tour Details
We flew into Shannon Airport in County Clare and drove to Springfield castle in Dromcollogher, County Limerick which would be out home for the next week. We visited the small coastal town of Cobh, formerly known as Queenstown which has seen its fair share of sea disasters. This was the last place the passengers boarded the Titanic in 1912 and the resting place for many that drowned in the Lusitania disaster on 1915. We took a ferry to Spike Island, a huge island prison as seen on Ghost Hunters International. It’s a place known to be the haunting spot of the infamous Banshee. The Ghost walk of Cobh explored the darker elements of the town and Cork Harbor's past with tales of the paranormal and ghost hauntings. We saw the Aillwee Caves which is the oldest Cave system in Ireland. We found out about the angels of Aillwee, a phenomenon which has been known to show tall white creatures in this underworld interpreted to be angels, but the truth is far more perturbing. We arrived at the Cliffs of Moher where on a clear day one can see the Aran Islands and Galway Bay, as well as the Twelve Pins and the Maum Turk mountains. We traveled to Killarney Town and around the Macgulleycuddy Reeks mountain range. We talked about a story which originated from the middle of the mountain range in a place called Dun Dreach-Fhoula or Castle of tainted blood. This was apparently a fortress guarding a lonely pass. It was, and still is, reputedly inhabited by blood-drinking, shape shifting fairies. We headed through the picturesque Ballaghbema Gap to the most likely place we would find traits of the Shee (fairy). We traveled to Carrigaphooca Castle which is said to be one of the most haunted castles in Ireland and has a stone circle two fields to the east of the castle. We spent time in Cork city for some shopping. Traveled into Limerick city to visit the castle of King John and the Bunratty Folk Park and Castle where everywhere was open for us to explore. We were transported back in time to dine "Medieval Style". The dining entertainment was provided by world renowned entertainers and was a fitting compliment to a mead reception, a four course feast, and of course good wine. We went to Adare, known as Ireland’s prettiest village and to Askeaton and its infamous Hellfire Club.
